Press Release

Clarification by Reform Support Unit, Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh Karachi, 5 June, 2014: Reform Support Unit (RSU)’s spokesperson said that a news item published in the section of media on 3rd June claiming discrepancies in appointments of Junior School Teachers (JSTs) and Primary School Teachers (PSTs) in Karachi division, is misleading and baseless. The procedure adopted in appointments through third party National Testing Service (NTS) was fair enough and purely merit based, spokesperson observed. Vacant seats for PSTs are 1057and 1468 for JSTs. For PST 465 and for JSTs 382 candidates have qualified. Offer letters to all qualified candidates will be distributed shortly. Daily Jang carried a story on 3rd June,
which said that few candidates have received offer letters and recruitment is done on the basis of Union Council. Recruitment of PSTs and JSTs is done as
per Teacher Recruitment Policy 2012, while implementing the quota for disable and minority, spokesperson maintained. He further elaborated that it is the part of policy to fill vacancies in schools situated in each union council by the residents/candidates of the said council. The purpose of this point was to make accountable to the candidates to their neighbourhoods, spokesperson added. Keeping in view the above situation, it is clarified that the news item appeared in the section of media is misleading and out of context. It is against the journalistic ethics that the concerned reporter has not tried to get and include the point of view of Reform Support Unit. It is suggested to all stakeholders to visit website: www.rsu-sindh.gov.pk, for further information. We welcome to all your queries. Office. 021-32765796
