In 2006 there were only 3 old age homes in Karachi but the official number has gone up to 6. Many social workers believe, however , that the number is higher because several homes are not registered with Government.

WHY OLD AGE HOMES IN PAKISTAN:

Living together with elder people in homes is our culture but children take

them as a problem. Our culture says “NO” to old age homes but reality says “YES.”

Our religious and ethical belief does not allow us to have old age homes in

our country.According to Islamic teachings, we must be obedient and must

show kindness to parents. In HOLY QURAN it is narrated that “Obeying

parents, treat them respectfully is next to worshiping ALLAH”.

Being grateful to your parents makes you grateful to ALLAH.

Children send their old parents to old age homes this is against the

teachings of Islam. In the light of Holy Quran and HOLY PROPHET’S

sayings, one can understand the special place of parents in Islam.

¨ The Holy Quran says,

“Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in the life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor.”-surah Al Isra

Our Prophet (PBUH) said,

“If a person obeys his parents, attends to their needs and keep them happy and comfortable, he will attain Paradise. On the other hand, if he is disrespectful and rude to them, offends them by ignoring their needs and feelings, his place shall be in HELL..”.

LOWER YOURSELF TO OLD PARENTS:

Every human being having reached old age needs more service and care. The

society must not ignore the rights of senior members.

   ALLAH (S.T) said :

“And lower to them shoulders with humility and meekness and say my Lord have mercy upon them(both) as they brought me up when I was little”

PARENTS DOOR OF HEAVEN:

Our duties to parents are resembled with the gates of paradise by the beloved Messenger of ALLAH

He ( S.A.W) said:

“ Father or a parent is the best gate of the Paradise. So , if you like guard the gate or destroy it.”

CHARGES OF OLD AGE HOMES:

Some old age homes are supported by the government and some which are independent are known as paid old age homes.Charges are between 3,000 and 75,000 as an initial deposit.Later , they charge a monthly fee ranging from 750 to 9,000 depending on the facalities. They provide basic facilities like:

.Three meals a day.

.Two cups of tea or coffee daily.

.Full time medical care.

Number of old age homes doubles in the last three years in world.Changing

family structures and attitude of younger generation have led to a sharp rise

in old age homes. In 2009 there were 60 old age homes in Bangalore and now

there are 120.

 Some disadvantages are below:

Old age homes separate old people from their children.

They do get their daily needs  fulfilled  but , from where will the love of the dear ones come.
